Assistant Golf Course Superintendent - Sharon Country Club

The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent’s supervision the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course. Supervises and assist in the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.

Typical Functions:
Assists in the planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and other landscape areas.  Schedule’s work supervises the employees, and the use of equipment.

Instructs equipment operators on the operation, care of mowing.
Applies pesticides, fertilizers and takes care of sprayer to ensure proper application of pesticides and fertilizers and keeps accurate records.

Participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation system, and drainage systems. Able to repair Toro 670, 730, and 800 series sprinklers.

Assists in personal management and evaluation, employee safety, personal discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

Employment Standards:
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. Ability to schedule, supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Required to have a current Massachusetts pesticide applicator license or obtain one within sixty days.

Must have a minimum of two years of golf course maintenance experience and a turf certificate.

Salary: $22.50 per hour plus overtime.

Sharon is a ten-hole private club with driving range and chipping area located in Sharon Massachusetts. In 2020 a new clubhouse opened, over two thousand feet of paved cart path was installed. Projects in the works include adding an extension to the third green, a central control for the irrigation system.
