Rhode Island Country Club is a 1911 Donald Ross designed club located right off the Narragansett Bay in Barrington, Rhode Island. Rhode Island Country Club is a family-oriented club striving to provide the best conditions for our members and their guests. We have over 400 family members and many of their tenures range over multiple generations.
Through Capital Investments into the property, and an aggressive agronomic program, we have strived to bring the level of golf course conditioning to the highest level. The current mechanic took a new position at another premier club.
Job Description & Duties:
The Equipment & Shop Manager will be responsible for the daily upkeep, preventative maintenance, and repair of all Grounds Maintenance equipment.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Over $400K of John Deere Leased Equipment
- CAT Skid Steer and Mini-Excavator
- Both Chem Turf and Toro Sprayers
- (3) Kubota Tractors
- A 16 Golf Cart Fleet (4 Electric+12 Gas)
- Miscellaneous RedMax, and Stihl Small Equipment
Most of R.I.C.C.’s equipment has been acquired through new purchases and lease programs within the last 5 years. With over 2 million dollars in equipment inventory, the ideal candidate will take a proactive approach to performing daily preventative maintenance and repairs on all equipment in order to achieve optimum performance and longevity. The Equipment and Shop Manager will be responsible for placing all necessary orders for parts and supplies needed to maintain an efficient and productive operation. The Equipment and Shop Manager is considered a member of our Management team, and will be involved in planning, scheduling, and the decision-making process. The Equipment and Shop Manager must be a driven and passionate individual with the ability to self-motivate. The right candidate will maintain an organized and clean shop area at all times, and present themselves in a professional manner. This individual can be expected to work 40-hour work weeks Monday through Friday year-round, and 4 hours on Saturdays April through October, but will need to have flexibility to work extended hours during aeration events, Member/Guest events, etc.. The ideal candidate will have a great passion for the turf industry, and will strive to make our operation and equipment the best it can possibly be. The individual must also have the ability to easily interact, and work together with a wide and diverse group of Club employees, vendors, and sales representatives. The Equipment and Shop Manager must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, and must operate in a safe manner.
Experience
- Educational Requirements: High School Diploma
- Experience Requirements: Three to five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment and small engines. Familiarity with grinding reels and bedknives, developing a preventative maintenance plan, and troubleshooting equipment breakdowns.
Character Qualities: The candidate must possess a great passion for this industry and their career, have the ability to take initiative at all times, be a “team player”, and must bring a positive attitude to work on a daily basis. The ability to work alongside and interact with the Management staff, full time employees, and seasonal employees at all times is essential.
Position Details:
- Salary: $35-$40/Hr. ($75,000 - $85,000 Annually) Depending on Qualifications and Experience
- Reports To: Head Golf Course Superintendent
- Date Position is Available: November 2023
Compensation Package & Position Benefits
- You will be eligible for enrollment first of the month following 60 days.
- Single Individuals pay 1/3 of premium, Family pay 50% of premium. Blue Cross Blue Shield Network Blue – Network Blue New England.
