Position/Title: Course Superintendent
Button Hole, short course and teaching center, is seeking to fill the full-time position of Superintendent. This person will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the Button Hole facility (26 acres), which includes a golf course (9-hole short course), driving range (30 yard dual-sided range), two building structures (The Club House/ Office and Maintenance Shed) and surrounding grounds owned by Button Hole. This person will be a member of the Senior Staff and will perform duties related to being a Senior Staff member.
Button Hole is a nonprofit (501c3) initiative that is funded entirely by public donations. We are dedicated to providing a short course and teaching center focused on kids and making golf “affordable and accessible”.
This Position Reports to: The Executive Director of Button Hole
Key Relationships: All members of the Senior Staff (which includes Director of Instruction and Head Golf Professional, Office/ Finance Administer, Director of Development), Members of the Board of Directors, community members, and Button Hole community partnerships. The Superintendent will also be a key member of the Greens Committee.
⦁ Oversee the daily maintenance of the facility and grounds, in accordance with accepted golf course and facility practices, under the guidance and direction from the Executive Director (complete list of daily activities will be reviewed during the interview process)
⦁ Manage the collection of balls on the driving range, clean the golf balls and return them to the pro shop on daily basis.
⦁ Oversee the daily maintenance of all equipment including a Button Hole owned vehicle
⦁ Assist in the design of a golf maintenance educational program
⦁ Supervise 4 to 5 paid golf course maintenance program participants
⦁ Represent Button Hole at community meetings, professional meetings (ie. superintendent association and trade shows) and other similar settings
⦁ Assist in preparing for events and activities held at Button Hole and off-site as needed
⦁ Manage budgets for maintenance and construction projects as directed
⦁ Keep up to-date with professional development and the latest in technologies in golf course maintenance
⦁ Be an active member of the Senior Staff
⦁ Participate in the strategic planning processes of Button Hole
⦁ Must have 3 to 5 years of experience in a golf maintenance leadership role (ie. Superintendent or Asst. Superintendent)
⦁ A bachelor degree in a related field desirable but not required
⦁ Must have a RI Commercial Pesticide Certificate or able to obtain the certification
⦁ Must be able to work and interact with a diverse population
⦁ Must be willing to train maintenance staff and follow a program design
⦁ Must have knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods
⦁ Must have understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf
⦁ Must have experience managing landscape and facility construction projects
⦁ Must have knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws surrounding the operation of a golf facility, including construction and safety
⦁ Must be able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
⦁ Must have skills to perform maintenance on a wide range of power equipment (ie. Engine powered equipment)
⦁ Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and nights as needed
⦁ Must be comfortable with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
⦁ Must have a valid driver license and a reliable vehicle (insured and registered)
⦁ Must have knowledge of automated irrigation systems (including programming)
Compensation/Benefits: Annual salary $60-75,000 depending on experience. Paid holidays, health/dental insurance (employee contributes 25%; 401 k plan)
