Established in 2004, the Bay Club at Mattapoisett (The Bay Club) is best described as a casually elegant full-service country club located on the South Coast of Massachusetts. The club prides itself on maintaining a high-level, pristine conditioned Championship golf course with a distinctive familial atmosphere, and vibrant active membership. The club is comfortably nestled within a gated community, which makes the Bay Club an ideal community for young families, mid-career, and retirees alike; the excellent school system makes it a great place to raise a family. A true residential club, its membership is made up of both campus homeowners and homeowners from the surrounding communities. It retains a small town feel yet is conveniently located near Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and is an hour from Boston and 45 minutes from Providence. It is the only club within 30 miles that provides a full-service country club experience. The location speaks for itself once it is experienced. The Club encompasses 625 acres (with 300 acres of adjacent conservation land) of which the country club and golf course occupy 200 acres. The community and club is proud to be a Certified Silver Audubon International Signature Sanctuary with championship golf, (4) lighted Har-tru Tennis courts and (2) lighted Paddle Courts, an outstanding sports and fitness complex, junior Olympic swimming pool and year-round fine dining.
Golf Course and Practice Facility Description:
The golf course grow in was summer/fall of 2003 through spring of 2004. The course opened for play on July 1, 2004. The golf course was designed by Brad Faxon and partner Brad Booth of Faxon/Booth Golf Design. The course boasts multiple tee boxes with generous fairways and large bent grass greens. In addition to the 18 holes of championship golf covering 200 acres, the practice facility is 320 yards long allowing dual use from each end, (1) putting green, (1) Himalayan putting green (long, lots of slope) used for juniors and family fun and Faxon designed short game area. To reduce practice tee turf wear, the club also has synthetic turf available for use. The course has gone through several renovations through the years with significant redesigns performed on holes 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 15. Additionally, 50+ acres of fescue has replaced bluegrass and reduced the formal turf footprint significantly while greatly improving the aesthetics and visuals on many holes. The Club is currently in the initial phases of planning for an irrigation system replacement with work tentatively scheduled to begin in fall of 2022.

The Superintendent will report to the General Manager and be responsible to the Board. The Superintendent will lead the entire golf maintenance team and will drive excellence throughout the operation, nurture team members and build a positive, winning, prideful culture throughout the department. The Bay Club Golf Superintendent is accountable for all aspects of golf course condition, construction, repairs, and maintenance. The Superintendent will consistently provide the Bay Club with exceptional golf course conditions and enhance the club’s reputation as one of the finest conditioned courses in the area. Additionally, the Superintendent will be expected to enhance and preserve the clubs proud Certified Silver Audubon International Signature Sanctuary distinction through appropriate best practices and environmental contributions.
Golf Course Superintendent Primary Responsibilities:
⦁ Accountable for all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel consistent with the high standards of the Club.
⦁ Directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of the golf course grounds.
⦁ Develop annual budget for presentation and approval by GM and club board and management of all expenditures.
⦁ Design and Execute all spray programs related to cultural planning, fungicides, and chemical planning and budgeting.
⦁ Working knowledge of irrigation systems including all major components, monitoring performance, overseeing annual maintenance and coordination with outside consultants (as necessary).
⦁ Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with the Head Golf Professional on any issues related to golf course maintenance.
⦁ Ensures proper record keeping relating to all aspects of planning and maintenance.
⦁ Administers and enforces all Club rules, regulations, and policies for staff.
⦁ Supports and assists with membership seminars and orientations.
⦁ Serves as Departmental lead on Greens Committee.
⦁ Remains abreast of new and emerging cultural and maintenance practices; including technology and irrigation systems.
⦁ Responsible for maintaining maintenance equipment and proposing annual plans for upgrade and replacement.
⦁ Be a steward for the club and its Audubon designation.
⦁ Passionate about leading a team and developing positive relationships.
⦁ Establish a culture of excellence and pride of workmanship.
⦁ Be accountable and communicative with team, management, and membership, as necessary .
⦁ 5+ years’ experience in Golf Course Management, Certified Golf Course Superintendent preferred
⦁ Minimum 2-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management (or related field, like agronomy, horticulture, plant science, soil science)
⦁ Advance computer skills required for financial reporting, control of operations, irrigation control, including use of Microsoft Office Suite
⦁ Valid Driver's License
⦁ Pesticide Application License
⦁ Certification by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America
⦁ Prefer good command of Spanish language, not mandatory
⦁ Thrive in a team environment focused on excellence
⦁ Possess strong organizational, motivational, and training skills
⦁ This position will require heavy lifting of equipment and product greater than 40 lbs
Compensation and Benefits:
⦁ The Club will offer a competitive compensation plan, along with standard benefits.
⦁ Management Incentive up to 10% of salary based on meeting pre-determined performance objectives in combination with Club’s annual financial goal.
