Description:
Alpine Country Club is a private 18-hole design by Geoffrey Cornish in Cranston, RI. Opened in 1960, the course comprises 150 acres which includes the golf course, extensive practice facilities, a pool area and horticultural amenities. The bunkers were renovated in the Fall of 2023 using the Better Billy method. Alpine has a growing, active membership with annual rounds at 27,000+ during a ten month season.
Specific Duties:
- Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, as well as course set-up; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of equipment.
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment, including IPM scouting; and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Assists in the personnel management and evaluation process, employee safety and personnel discipline.
Employment Standards:
- Working knowledge of the maintenance practices and standards for all areas of the golf course; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems; including wells, pumps, and controllers; snow removal.
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most effective utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and precise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Possession or ability to obtain a Rhode Island pesticide license
- Computer abilities.
- Strong knowledge of the game and strategies of golf.
Education:
- A two-four year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field, with a minimum of two years hands-on experience.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range starting at $52,000-60,000 based on qualifications, full benefit package with a 401k, paid vacation per club policy, uniforms, local association dues and education paid for, meals, golf privileges.
