    Experience:  Prior golf course experience in a management role.

    Duties Description: The candidate will work closely with the Superintendent on all aspects of golf course maintenance. Staff management, efficiency and leadership. The position will consist of fertilizer and pesticide applications, calibration, and training. Other duties will include course set-up, water management, irrigation and drainage projects and troubleshooting assignments.  Disease, insect and moisture scouting.  Work with the superintendent to achieve agronomic goals.

    Special Requirements:  The position requires the individual to be motivated, have an excellent eye for detail and a strong work ethic. Must be honest and have a positive attitude. Have a valid driver’s license.

    Salary & Benefits: $85,000 salary

    Job description
    Valley Country Club is a public 18 hole, par 72 course with picturesque views, challenging greens and pristine fairways. 51 bunkers and 3 water holes are featured on the tree lined course making for a challenging experience.

    Club Overview
    Valley Country Club is a 18-Hole semi-private golf club located in Warwick, RI.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform chemical applications on both courses/properties and fertilizing tees, greens and fairways with sprayers and spreaders.
    • Participates and contributes to the Management team, trains, mentors and monitors staff.
    • Perform routine safety inspection and upkeep on all spray equipment.
    • Interpret and read labels.
    • Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
    • Log all applications to work with Assistant for input in chemical data program.
    • Assist with aerification.
    • Daily setup to include changing cups, moving tees, etc.
    • Other duties as assigned within golf course grounds.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with application of fertility and plant protectant products, including calibration of equipment.
    • Able to manage inventory and usage of applications.
    • Able to operate, repair, service and train others on various pieces of golf course equipment.
    • A two-year turf management Degree or in a related field is preferred but not required.
    • May be required to work some weekends.
    • Must like to be outdoors and willing to work early hours.
    • Should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, possess a strong work ethic and have a basic knowledge of golf course maintenance.
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
    • Must have transportation to and from work.

    Job Type: Full-time
    Salary: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

    About the Club
    Founded in 1897, Agawam Hunt is one of the original 25 USGA Member Clubs. A family friendly, year-round club located minutes from downtown Providence, Agawam boasts some of the finest recreational facilities in New England, including a historic Donald Ross designed golf course. Agawam annually plays host to multiple USTA Grass Court Championships annually as well as many NEPGA events including the 2023 NEPGA Championship and the 2024 NEPGA Pro-Am Championship. Agawam will also be hosting a USGA Mid-Am Qualifier in 2024.

    Job Description

    The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence. Assist in maintaining a championship 18-hole golf course and overall grounds maintenance for a 130-acre property. Duties will also include maintenance of 10 grass tennis courts, 4 HarTru clay courts, and landscaping around the clubhouse.

    Job Functions

    • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
    • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. 
    • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline. 
    • May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

    Job Requirements

    • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. 
    • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license. 
    • May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.

    Seasonal groundskeepers, perform routine manual labor involved in golf course or tennis court maintenance; do semi-skilled to skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operate hand powered equipment and other equipment under the direction of the golf course superintendent, assistant superintendent of assigned supervisor. Each groundskeeper may be assigned responsibility for the care and maintenance of several designated holes on the golf. course and does related work as required.
     
    Typical functions:
    The seasonal groundskeeper:
    ⦁     Operates mowers and string trimmers in trimming greens, around tees, fence lines, banks and hillsides; edges cart paths; rakes and maintains sand bunkers.
    ⦁     Mows greens, tees, rough and other areas as directed by the superintendent or assigned supervisor; rakes sand bunkers with power rakes.
    ⦁     Sets tee markers; maintains ball washers and tee towels; maintains tennis courts; maintains water coolers; collects trash; sands and seeds tee and fairway divots.
    ⦁     Returns all equipment to designated location at the maintenance facility; cleans equipment and maintenance areas.
    ⦁     Maintains fuel and fluid levels on all equipment used on a daily basis, reports equipment problems or failures to the equipment manager immediately.
    ⦁     Helps in project work of green, tee, fairway and additional areas; grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds aforementioned areas.
    ⦁     Installs paths using gravel mixes; excavates and backfills ditches and trenches; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems.
    ⦁    Must be able to lift 80 Ibs., as needed.
    ⦁    Performs other duties as directed by the superintendent or assistant superintendents, or an assigned supervisor.

    Employment standards:
    ⦁     Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape construction/maintenance work.
    ⦁     Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools: equipment.
    ⦁    Knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline engines; safe and efficient operation of motorized equipment.
    ⦁     Mechanical aptitude.
    ⦁    Physical strength, stamina, and agility.
    ⦁    Ability to follow oral and written directions.
    ⦁    Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and work well with others in a team environment.
    ⦁    Possession of a valid driver's license.

    Salary Range: Hourly rate is $18 hour, overtime is available.

    Description:
    Alpine Country Club is a private 18-hole design by Geoffrey Cornish in Cranston, RI. Opened in 1960, the course comprises 150 acres which includes the golf course, extensive practice facilities, a pool area and horticultural amenities. The bunkers were renovated in the Fall of 2023 using the Better Billy method. Alpine has a growing, active membership with annual rounds at 27,000+ during a ten month season.

    Specific Duties:

    • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, as well as course set-up; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of equipment.
    • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment, including IPM scouting; and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
    • Assists in the personnel management and evaluation process, employee safety and personnel discipline.

    Employment Standards:

    • Working knowledge of the maintenance practices and standards for all areas of the golf course; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems; including wells, pumps, and controllers; snow removal.
    • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most effective utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and precise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.

    • Possession or ability to obtain a Rhode Island pesticide license
    • Computer abilities.

    Education:

    • A two-four year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field, with a minimum of two years hands-on experience.

    Salary and Benefits:
    Salary range starting at $52,000-60,000 based on qualifications, full benefit package with a 401k, paid vacation per club policy, uniforms, local association dues and education paid for, meals, golf privileges.
